The initial area of coverage is limited to downtown Rosario while all the infrastructure required to launch the pilot program was deployed by local companies Openware and Transdatos.

The Wi-Fi program is part of the so-called Ciudad Digital 2010 project, proposed by councilor Jorge Boasso, which the municipality approved in October last year.

Digital 2010 proposes to provide Wi-Fi connections in airports, bus stations, public offices and universities. According to previous newspaper reports, the Wi-Fi project is expected to be fully implemented during 2008.

Authorities from the Rosario IT hub and the municipality visited last March several cities in the US where digital projects have been deployed, including San Francisco and Mountain View in California and Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. San Francisco municipal authorities also agreed to provide consulting services to their Rosario counterpart during the implementation.
